Marina Abramovic-web.jpg

Yugoslavian-born performance artist Marina Abramovic was chosen as the University of Connecticut’s 2002 Sackler Artist-in-Residence. Her nomination came from the Department of Art and Art History’s faculty where Marina’s selection was enthusiastically endorsed as most deserving and altogether in keeping with the spirit of the Sackler’s vision. The program’s aim is to bring to the campus, and into the students’ lives, a continuous stream of world-renown artists, playwrights, and musicians. Visiting artists in this program have the opportunity to mentor and collaborate with some of our most advanced students, while utilizing the many physical and intellectual resources of the university. The resulting product is published, exhibited, performed, or some combination of all.
