BARRY A. ROSENBERG
NEW CENTURY VISION: ART ADVICE
Barry A. Rosenberg
Barry A. Rosenberg was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he also received an undergraduate degree in painting at the University for the Arts (known then as the Philadelphia College of Art). He earned his Graduate degree, also in studio art, from the University of New Mexico. After gaining his Masters degree he joined the painting and drawing Faculty of Miami University, in Oxford Ohio. As a tenured member of their Art & Art History Department for ten years Barry managed Miami's graduate painting area, along with a Visiting Artist program. This program helped generate new works by Laurie Anderson, Meredith Monk, Nancy Holt, Dennis Adams and Frank Gehry.
After leaving Miami, Barry became the Director of The Museum of Contemporary Art at Wright State University. During his years at MoCA @ WSU he developed an outstanding, award-winning program and developed an art collection that included major works by Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman, Haim Steinbach, Lucian Freud, Sally Mann and Ashley Bickerton. His success in Dayton lead to his appointment as Executive Director of the internationally respected Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art in Ridgefield. At this Connecticut landmark of creative excellence, he again won the museum many awards and organized traveling exhibitions.
In 1993 Barry began his own consulting business "Next Century Vision," now "New Century Vision." In the mid-90s, Barry assumed the role of Art Advisor to the Robert J. Shiffler Collection & Archive Foundation, a world-class collection of "cutting edge" artwork, in addition to running his art advise business spent 18-years as the director of the University of Connecticut's Contemporary Art Galleries (CAG) and also as an Associate Professor mentored MFA studio majors.
